TRUE CLEANING FIELD GUIDE

Move-out cleaning checklist

Plan a more orderly residential turnover by confirming condition, access, deadline, inclusions and inspection expectations before cleaning begins.

Reviewed and updated: August 4, 2026

Before the cleaning appointment

Remove personal belongings, trash and furniture that is not part of the property. Confirm electricity, water, lighting, parking, access and the exact inspection or handoff deadline.

  • Empty rooms and accessible storage areas
  • Defrost appliances only when interior cleaning is included
  • Report damaged or delicate surfaces
  • Share lease, property-manager or turnover requirements

Kitchen and bathrooms

These rooms often require the most labor, so appliance interiors, cabinets, buildup and fixtures should be discussed during the estimate.

  • Counters, sinks and accessible fixtures
  • Exterior appliances and agreed interiors
  • Cabinet and drawer interiors when included
  • Showers, tubs, toilets, mirrors and floors

Living areas and bedrooms

A turnover scope commonly includes dusting, reachable fixtures, baseboards when quoted, floors, interior glass and visible marks that can be safely removed.

  • Dust accessible ledges and fixtures
  • Vacuum carpet and clean hard floors
  • Wipe doors, handles and switch plates
  • Clean reachable interior glass as agreed

Items requiring separate approval

Wall washing, exterior windows, carpet extraction, pest residue, heavy debris, hazardous materials, repair work and damage restoration are not automatically part of a move-out clean.

Final walkthrough

Allow time to review the completed written scope before keys are returned. Cleaning cannot guarantee a security-deposit decision because landlords and property managers may apply separate condition standards.

How this guide was prepared

This page is educational and reflects common planning considerations for cleaning estimates. The exact scope, staffing, schedule and price depend on a property walkthrough, access, condition and written service agreement.
